Definition Cards for Color Theory

Use these definition cards for color theory as a starter to your lesson.  They will consolidate learning of colour theory and can be used for group work.

Print and laminate the sheets and then cut into the cards. Cut each card in half for your students to sort.  This is a great way to include group work and collaboration in your art lessons.  There is a UK and UK version where 11 cards cover the following words and definitions:

  • Primary Colour
  • Secondary Colour
  • Tertiary Colour
  • Harmonious or Analogous Colour
  • Complementary Colour
  • Monochromatic
  • Triadic Colour
  • Split Complementary
  • Warm Colours
  • Cool Colours
  • Hue
